Is There A New Brick Wall To Climb?
One of the lessons I learned early in life is that nothing lasts forever. Good as well as bad times come and go sooner or later, and we need to be ready to change on the turn of a dime.
Let’s leave aside for a moment the disruption, drop in revenue, and challenges of every kind that businesses have gone through recently, and let’s look at something else. As we slowly make our way back, I have noticed that many of us are in front of a new brick wall that needs to be climbed, and I feel that this has been built due to the recent global experiences that we have all been touched by.
Clients: depending on which sector you are in, many clients have done a one-eighty in terms of what they want and need. Faced with challenges in planning and executing their own services, you may well now find that they need a completely new, or at best, modified, service or product from you.
Staff: Remote working has dramatically changed the needs of many workers. While some may be breaking down the door to go back to working in the office, many others, on the other hand, have decided that they want something else for their lives. Therefore, those of us with teams need to adjust accordingly, as previous offers and benefits may not work today.
A New Model: Many of us have realized that the way we used to work is not what the world now needs. This is a golden opportunity for those who really “get it” and can see where their sector is headed. Watering dead plants will only bring frustration and further challenges.
Personal Growth: I have also witnessed a great awakening in the personal growth of many people, which can only be a good thing. The downtime that we have had, has allowed many of us to reflect on what is important to us and has taught us not only that we must invest our personal resources wisely, but we also need to let go of what no longer feeds us.
Finding ourselves in front of a new brick wall to climb over may not necessarily be a negative thing; if climbing over to the other side increases our critical thinking and elevates the values from which we approach our professional and personal lives, then it can only be positive, and will ultimately bring us rewarding and exciting new connections, experiences, and opportunities.
Put on your harness — it’s time to go climbing!
